Sorcha overhauled Dont Worry Bout It in the stretch and drew off to a two-length victory in the six-and-a-half furlong Scissortail Stakes at Remington Park on Sunday, Sept. 27.
The first two juvenile fillies past the finish line provided a winning exacta for their sire, Maxfield, in the race. The victory marked the first Stakes win for Sorcha, who has won two of her three starts and banked $57,420.
A field of seven youngsters went to the post in the Scissortail and at the start it was Specialcharlatan that went to the front. She was quickly joined by Connie’scalculator, Angelforblueskies, and Gun Magic in a mad scramble for the lead. Sitting right behind the leaders in a stalking position were both Dont Worry Bout It and Sorcha, with Dont Worry Bout It working her way into second by the half-mile pole.
Sorcha began to rally while running three-wide on the far turn and was under a strong drive as the fillies hit the top of the lane. She set her sights on Dont Worry Bout It, who had wrested the lead away from Angelforblueskies. Sorcha powered to the front in deep stretch and pulled away for a comfortable two-length victory.
Sorcha was bred in Kentucky by St. Simon Place and is out of Master of Hope, a winning daughter of Bodemeister. Master of Hope is a half-sister to Stakes winners Extra Hope (G3 Native Diver S.) and Lotsandlotsofcandy.
Sorcha becomes the eighth Stakes winner for her sire, Maxfield, who is also represented by two-time G1 winner, Englishman, winner of both the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes and Woody Stephens Stakes this year. In addition, he is the sire of Mashallah, winner of the G3 Prioress Stakes and Maximum Offer, winner of the G3 Indiana Oaks.
