Mashallah caught a flyer out of the starting gate and never looked back on her way to cruising to a five-and-a-half length victory in the $100,000 Tyson Gilpin Stakes at Colonial Downs on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The good-looking filly provided a quick Stakes double on the card for her sire Maxfield, whose son Sabino Canyon took the Petramalo Mile Stakes once race prior. The Tyson Gilpin was the Stakes debut and first Stakes win for Mashallah, who now has won three of her four starts.
A field of seven sophomore fillies went to the post in the seven-furlong contest, with Mashallah going off as the heavy favorite. The Brendan Walsh trainee didn’t disappoint her backers, popping out of the gate on top and taking command quickly under jockey Tyler Gaffalione. At that point, the outcome was never in doubt, as Mashallah was on cruise control throughout, eventually kicking clear in the stretch to win easily.
Slewperstious and Wrong Shoes completed the trifecta.
Mashallah was bred in Kentucky by Taylor Made Stallions Inc., Louis Brooks Ranch Ltd., and Baysore Stables, et al, and was purchased by her current connections, JR Ranch, for $1.25 million at the 2025 OBS March sale of two-year-olds in training. She is out of the winning Quiet American mare, All in With Aces, and is a half sister to multiple Graded Stakes winner Hard Aces (by Hard Spun), winner of the G1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita, and to multiple Stakes winner and Graded Stakes-placed Astrollinthepark (by Divine Park).
Mashallah was the second Stakes winner of the afternoon for her sire, Maxfield, after Sabino Canyon took the Petramalo Mile just one race prior on the card. In addition to this talented duo, Maxfield is also the sire of the exciting three-year-old colt, Englishman, winner of the G1 Woody Stephens Stakes where he equaled the Saratoga track record. Other 2026 Stakes winners include Maximum Offer, winner of the G3 Indiana Oaks; Ivy Girl, winner of the Weber City Miss Stakes and Holly’s Holiday, winner of the Valley of the Vapors Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
