Speaker’s Speech has plenty to say in Woodbine’s G3 Grey Stakes

Juvenile colt by Speaker’s Corner goes gate-to wire to break his maiden

Speaker’s Speech broke his maiden in style with an impressive gate-to-wire stroll to take the G3 Grey Stakes at Woodbine Nov. 1.

The two-year-old son of Speaker’s Corner has always been highly thought of by trainer Mark Casse, having made his first two career starts in Stakes races – finishing second in his debut in the Soaring Free Stakes in August before coming in third in the G3 Algonquin Stakes last time out.

Stretched out to 8.5 furlongs for this contest, Speaker’s Speech broke on top and never looked back, easily holding off his stablemate Play It Again in the stretch to win by a length.

Bred in Kentucky by Tommy Wente Jr. and Scott Stephens, Speaker’s Speech was purchased for $875,000 by agent Lauren Carlisle at the OBS April sale of 2-year-olds in training. He is out of the mare Danessa Deluxe, a Graded Stakes-placed daughter of Summer Bird.

Speaker’s Speech is the eighth winner and fourth Stakes winner from the first crop of his sire, Speaker’s Corner, who is also represented by G2 Oak Leaf Stakes winner Domain Expansion and Harper’s Corner, winner of the listed Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga.

Speaker’s Corner will stand the 2027 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $15,000, stands and nurses.
