Domain Expansion rockets to victory in G2 Oak Leaf Stakes

Daughter of Speaker’s Corner overpowers rivals to earn her first Graded Stakes win

Domain Expansion shot to the lead off the far turn and stormed home a commanding seven-length winner while breaking her maiden in the G2 Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita Oct. 3. The race was a 'Win and You're In' event, giving the winner an automatic berth to the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland Oct. 30.

Domain Expansion, who became the second Stakes winner for her freshman sire Speaker's Corner, had made just one previous start, finishing second going one mile over the turf at Del Mar Sept. 5. The filly was a $130,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase.

Overlooked by the bettors and sent off at 14-1, Domain Expansion sat just off pacesetting Deluge through fractions of :23.05 and :47.11. She waited for racing room on the far turn, tipped out four wide approaching the stretch and stormed right to the lead into the lane before sailing home seven lengths in front. Holmby was second and Quattro Passi was third.

Domain Expansion was bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall, Carrie and Craig Brogden, is out of the Medaglia d’Oro mare Special You, an unraced full sister to multiple Graded Stakes winner, Mrs McDougal. During her successful racing career, Mrs McDougal captured the G2 Lake George Stakes and G3 Noble Damsel. She has now become a successful broodmare, having produced Seal Team (War Front) winner of the G2 Twilight Derby.

Domain Expansion is the second Stakes winner for her freshman sire, Speaker’s Corner, joining Harper’s Corner, winner of the listed Schuylerville Stakes and recently second in the G3 Matron Stakes at Belmont Park.

Speaker's Corner is by the emerging sire of sires, Street Sense, and won the G1 Carter while posting an impressive 114 Beyer. In fact, in the past six years, only Sovereignty and Flightline have run faster. His seven career triple-digit Beyers include a 109 at three.
