Serendipity made her Stakes debut a winning one, going wire-to-wire to post a two-and-a-half length victory in the G3 Selene Stakes for sophomore fillies at Woodbine on Saturday, 28 June.
The bay daughter of Street Sense has now won two of three starts for owners LNJ Foxwoods and NK Racing.
A field of eight fillies went to the post in the 8.5-furlong Selene, with Serendipity going off as the second betting choice behind the Mark Casse-trained No Time. Serendipity, ridden for the first time by Rafael Hernandez, broke alertly and went straight to the front, where she was allowed to set a measured pace while racing just off the inside rail.
Serendipity maintained a comfortable pace while holding a one-length lead over Nata Trouble throughout the early stages of the race. As the field hit the top of the lane, Serendipity hit another gear and spurted away as she continued to open up in the stretch, eventually crossing the wire an easy winner. Tiz Her Money rallied for second, with Somethinabouther taking third.
Serendipity was bred in Kentucky by Scott Clarke, Reynard Bloodstock, Nicky Drion, S. Murat, and Michael B. and is out Café Belle, an unraced daughter of Medaglia d’Oro. Purchased by Solis/Litt, agent, for $250,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September yearling sale, Serendipity is a half sister to Nay V Belle, a winning daughter of Midshipman. Café Belle is out of the Graded Stakes-winning mare, Snowbell (by Tapit), and is a half sister to Stakes winner Twice As Sweet (by Candy Ride).
In addition to Serendipity, Street Sense is also represented this year by La Cara, winner of both the G1 Central Bank Ashland Stakes and G1 Acorn Stakes; First Mission, winner of the G2 Oaklawn Handicap and Kinetic, winner of the General MacArthur Overnight Stakes.
