Beast Mode: Street Beast wires the field to win Leonatus Stakes at Turfway Park

Three-year-old Street Sense colt kicks off New Year with another Stakes victory

Midway Racing’s Street Beast kicked off his sophomore season with an impressive gate-to-wire victory in the Leonatus Stakes at Turfway Park on Saturday, Jan. 17.

Ridden by Luan Machado for trainer Ben Colebrook, the Leonatus was son of Street Sense’s third-career victory from just five starts and second-career stakes victory after winning the Listed Juvenile Mile at Kentucky Downs as a two-year-old.

Street Beast broke from the outside post in the field of eight and Machado quickly established the lead while crossing over to the rail midway through the clubhouse turn. Following an opening quarter-mile in :24.15, Street Beast opened up by two lengths on his closest competitors and cruised a half-mile in :48.54.

Around the far turn, several closers attempted to cut into Street Beast’s margin, including the favorite Fulleffort. In deep stretch, Street Beast was able to hold off Fulleffort’s late charge for a one length victory while completing a mile in 1:40.57. It was two lengths back to Jutland in third.

Street Beast was bred in Kentucky by Sunnybrook Stables LLC and is out of Flower Party (Duke of Marmalade), winner of the G3 Premio Verziere Memorial Aldo Cirla in Italy. Flower Party is a half-sister to Birthday Party (Rock of Gibraltar), like her sibling also a Stakes winner in Italy, and both mares hail from the Graded Stakes-winning mare, Traverse City (Halo).

Street Sense begins 2026 on a strong note after having sired several Stakes winners in 2025, including Graded Stakes winners La Cara (G1 Ashland and G1 Acorn Stakes); new Darley stallion First Mission (G2 Oaklawn Handicap); Bella Ballerina (G2 Golden Rod), and Serendipity (G3 Selene Stakes).

Street Sense will stand the 2026 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $40,000, stands and nurses.
