Sage Valley superb in G3 Maryland Sprint Handicap

Second black type winner on the day for Discreet Cat

Just hours after promising Discreet Cat juvenile Debt Ceiling's explosive victory in the Rollicking Stakes at Pimlico, the sire was represented by another exciting win from Sage Valley in the G3 Maryland Sprint Handicap on the Preakness undercard May 18.

Sent off as the favorite in the six-furlong sprint, Sage Valley was content to remain towards the back of the field. Steadily advancing, the four-year-old went three wide in the stretch and then kicked clear for the win. It was the colt's fourth victory in a row, having wired the Mr. Nasty Stakes last time out by more than six lengths at Aqueduct. Hardened Wilcat, by Hard Spun, completed the exacta.

Bred in Kentucky by Buck Pond Farm, Sage Valley is out of Ashwood C C, a seven-time Stakes winner by Cryptoclearance. The colt's granddam is Stakes winner Dylan's Crafty.

Sage Valley is the fourth Graded Stakes winner for Discreet Cat, among them G2 Gulfstream Park Handicap winner and G1-placed Discreet Dancer. His two-year-olds have sold for up to $425,000 at auction in 2013.

Discreet Cat stands for $12,500 stands and nurses.
