Stormdriver rallies to win Louisiana Premier Night Championship

Son of Discreet Cat shines in featured event on rich $1-million stakes program

Stormdriver rallied from just off the pace to spring a mild upset in the $200,000 Louisiana Premier Night Championship at Delta Downs Feb. 6.

The son of Discreet Cat was settled just off the pace in fourth as three horses battled for the lead through swift opening fractions of 22.57 seconds for the first quarter and 47.22 for the half-mile. As the field entered the homestretch, Stormdriver charged past the frontrunners and took the lead, pulling away to win by one-and-a-quarter-lengths.

Bred in Louisiana by Tigertail Ranch, Stormdriver is out of the Stakes-winning mare Prom Date, and hails from the female family of multiple G1 winner, Fit to Fight.

Discreet Cat had a fantastic year in 2015 with nine individual black type winners, which is more than any other stallion standing for less than $25,000.  His best runners lifetime include G1 Del Mar Oaks winner Discreet Marq, back-to-back G1 Carter Handicap winner Dads Caps, and G1 Chandelier Stakes winner Secret Compass.

Discreet Cat will stand for a fee of $7,500 (stands and nurses) in 2016.
