La Cara splashes to victory in G1 Acorn Stakes

Daughter of Street Sense returns to form and earns her second G1 win

La Cara took the lead right out of the starting gate and never looked back as she rolled to a three-length victory in the G1 Acorn Stakes over a rain-soaked main track at Saratoga on Friday, 6 June.

The Acorn victory was the second Grade 1 tally for the three-year-old Street Sense filly, who captured the G1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland in April. La Cara turned the tables on the previously unbeaten Good Cheer (Medaglia d’Oro), who had proven much the best when winning the G1 Kentucky Oaks on 2 May.

Confidently handled by jockey Dylan Davis, La Cara broke sharply and was let loose on the front end, skipping over the sloppy surface through early fractions of :23.40 and :47.08. La Cara faced little pressure throughout, eventually cruising home by three lengths. Look Forward got the better of Scottish Lassie for second. La Cara improved her record to 5-2-0 in 11 starts.

Trained by Mark Casse and bred in Kentucky by her owner, Tracy Farmer, La Cara is out of the Bernardini mare Cara Caterina, a full sister to G1 winners To Honor and Serve and Angela Renee. Her second dam is Stakes winner, Pilfer, who has also produced Stakes winner and G1-placed Elnaawi (Street Sense).

In addition to La Cara, Street Sense is also represented by 2025 Stakes winners First Mission (G2 Oaklawn Handicap) and Kinetic (General MacArthur Overnight Stakes).

Street Sense is standing at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $50,000, stands and nurses.
