Far from Discreet

Discreet Cat two-year-old stands out at Saratoga

In his first start as a two-year-old, Discreet Cat colt Dehere of the Cat certainly made a statement July 24 in a Maiden Special Weight victory at historic Saratoga. He is the fourth two-year-old winner for the freshman sire.

Dehere of the Cat pressed the early pace from the outside during the five and one-half furlong dirt race. Coming into the turn, he contended for the lead and fought down the stretch to earn an impressive victory in the final one-sixteenth of a mile.

Dehere of the Cat is out of the Stakes-placed Dehere mare Dehere of the Dog. The mare is a half-sister to juvenile G3 winner Sunray Spirit as well as Graded Stakes winner Ballymore Lady. The colt was bred in New York by Mia Gallo, Dave Stack, and Fred Gorsline.

Discreet Cat's résumé now boasts four two-year-old winners, which include Son De America, Kinnikonick, and Prom Queen. Unbeaten at two and three, Discreet Cat's biggest win came in the G1 Cigar Mile, where he matched the talented Easy Goer's course record. His first crop of runners includes the offspring of 87 Stakes horses/producers.
