Doctor Mounty rallies to claim the Prince George’s County Stakes

Son of Street Sense surges late to earn his second Stakes win of the year

Doctor Mounty swept past the heavily favored Divisidero in deep stretch to take the Prince George’s County Stakes by a length at Laurel Park 16 June.

It was the second Stakes victory of the year for the veteran son of Street Sense. He began 2019 with a sharp score in the G3 Tropical Turf at Gulfstream Park. Overall, it’s the third Stakes win for Doctor Mounty; he captured the G3 Baltimore/Washington International Turf Cup last year.

Ridden patiently by jockey Forest Boyce, Doctor Mounty was settled down along the inside rail in mid-pack through the early stages of the race. As the field raced through the far turn, Doctor Mounty was shifted out into the clear, and began to close in on the leading Divisidero and Just Howard with just over a furlong to run.

Under left-handed urging from his rider, Doctor Mounty forged pasted the dueling leaders in deep stretch to win going away.

Bred in Kentucky by G. Watts Humphrey Jr., Susan Keller, Vicki Oliver & G. Watts Humphrey III, Doctor Mounty is out of On A Roll, a full sister to Multiple Stakes winners Ender’s Sister (Listed Florida Oaks, etc.) and Ender’s Shadow (Listed Tokyo City Handicap, etc.). Doctor Mounty is a half-brother to Multiple Stakes winner Dabster, who set a new track record when winning the Los Alamitos Special (10 furlongs in 2:00.45).

In addition to Doctor Mounty, Street Sense is also represented by 2019 Graded Stakes winners Air Strike (G2 Triple Bend Stakes), Dixie Blossoms (G1 Coolmore Classic in Australia), McKinzie (G2 Alysheba Stakes), Champagne Anyone (G2 Gulfstream Park Oaks), and Aztec Sense (G3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes). Only the stallion Tapit has more Graded Stakes winners this year.

Street Sense is standing the 2019 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for $50,000, stands and nurses.
