Boomington makes some noise at the Spa, flies home late to win in her debut

Exciting filly becomes tenth winner for freshman sire Maxfield

Boomington became the tenth winner for her freshman sire Maxfield when she prevailed in a driving finish to break her maiden in her career debut on the turf at Saratoga on Aug. 31.

After bumping with a rival at the start, Boomington settled in mid-pack early, saving ground along the inside rail as Roseberns Dream and Maria Callas battled for the early lead. Boomington continued to hug the inside rail down the backstretch and into the far turn.

Lacking racing room at the top of the stretch, jockey John Velazquez angled Boomington to the outside and she closed strongly in the final furlong to just get up in the final strides to win by a nose over Cosmic Candy Girl. Livin the Breeze was just a half-length further back in third.

Boomington was bred in New York by Eaton & Thorne, Inc. She is out of the winning mare, Cabales (by Pulpit), and is a half-sister to Graded Stakes winner Run Away (G2 Best Pal Stakes) and to Stakes-placed Si Si Tequila.

A few Maxfield's nine other exciting winners include recent fellow Saratoga debut winner and 'TDN Rising Star' Five Bars; Lilies N Paradise, debut winner at Churchill Downs (and now Stakes-placed at Delaware Park); Just Asap, a seven-length debut winner at Ellis Park (and now Stakes-placed at Monmouth Park) and Max Ciao, a six-and-a-quarter length winner at Del Mar.
