Favorite Proctor Street responded to jockey Pietro Moran’s urging down the stretch when she rallied to win the G2 Canadian Stakes on the King’s Plate undercard at Woodbine on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Proctor Street, a five-year-old mare by Street Sense, moved into third place just past the quarter pole of the 8.5-furlong contest for fillies and mares on the inner turf. Pacesetting 4-year-old Lupa, who clicked off fractions of :22.48, :46.46 and 1:10.79 under Fraser Aebly, conceded the lead to Eponine, with Rafael Hernández up, before the mile went in 1:35.13.
Trained by Brendan Walsh, Proctor Street lurked three wide and reeled in Eponine in the shadow of the wire to win by a neck.
Proctor Street was bred in Kentucky and races as a homebred for Patricia L. Moseley. She is out of the multiple Graded Stakes-winning mare, Proctor’s Ledge (Ghostzapper), winner of the G2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile, G2 Lake Placid Stakes and placed in the G1 Just a Game Stakes.
Proctor Street joins Bella Ballerina as Graded Stakes winners this year for their sire Street Sense. Bella Ballerina captured the G2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes at Fair Grounds in the spring. Street Sense is also represented by Street Beast, winner of the Leonatus Stakes at Turfway Park.
