Sea Strike made his Stakes debut a winning one with a dominating eight-and-a-quarter length victory over seven rivals in the listed Curlin Stakes at Saratoga Aug. 2.
Making just his third career start, the son of Midshipman was ever the professional, sitting just off the pace set by longshot Gulfy through the early stages of the nine furlong contest. Going into the far turn after completing six furlongs in 1:11.88, the closers began closing in for the final drive and the field bunched together with 4-5 favorite Chief Wallabee the looming danger.
Straightening out at the top of the lane, Sea Strike made his move and overhauled the longtime leader with an electric turn of foot in upper stretch. The race was over in a matter of strides as he easily opened up on Chief Wallabee and galloped in the easiest of winners. Gulfy held on to wrap the trifecta.
Sea Strike was bred in Kentucky by Lesley Campion and River Oak Farm and was purchased by his current connections for $650,000 at the 2025 OBS March sale of two-year-olds in training. Sea Strike is out of Meetmeonline (by Line of David), a half sister to multiple Graded Stakes winner and leading New York sire, Bucchero.
In addition to Sea Strike, Midshipman is also the sire of Anegada, a three-time Stakes winner who captured the $200,000 John B. Connelly Turf Cup at Sam Houston Race Park in January; Synthetic, winner of the Creole Stakes; Gerrards Cross, winner of the Monmouth County Stakes and Scar Ship, winner of the Prince Stakes.
