Synthetic surged to the front turning for home and cruised to an easy five-and-a-half length victory in the $75,000 Creole Lady Stakes at Evangeline Downs on Friday, May 1. The race for fillies and mares 3-years-old and upward was contested at the distance of 5-1/2 furlongs.
It was the first Stakes victory for the four-year-old daughter of Midshipman, who was beaten just a half-length in her prior Stakes attempt, the Ova Charged Stakes at Fair Grounds in her last start. That race, which was on the turf, was her only loss in six starts.
Miss Priority broke on top and rocketed away from her outside post, while jockey Emanuel Nieves and Synthetic followed closely as they cleared the field and crossed over toward the rail. Six String and Sassi Strutter both encountered some brief traffic as the leaders crossed and sped away through an opening quarter-mile in a snappy :22.22.
Synthetic easily rolled past a fading Miss Priority to gain the advantage heading into the stretch, while Six String and Sassi Strutter both made bids to get past the rest of the field. Synthetic extended her lead in the stretch, finishing five-and-a-half lengths ahead of Six String, with Sassi Strutter another half-length back in third.
Synthetic was bred in Louisiana by Clear Creek Stud LLC and Theodore Brandon and is out of Always Here Too, a Graded Stakes-placed daughter of Include. Her second dam is Always Sure (Lord At War), winner of the Listed River Cities Breeders’ Cup Stakes.
In addition to Synthetic, Midshipman is also the sire of Anegada, a three-time Stakes winner who captured the $200,000 John B. Connelly Turf Cup at Sam Houston Race Park in January and Scar Ship, winner of the Prince Stakes at Delta Downs.
Midshipman is standing the 2026 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $15,000, stands and nurses.
