Scar Ship sails to victory in Prince Stakes at Delta Downs

Son of Midshipman much the best when earning his first Stakes win

Scar Ship prompted the early pace from second before taking command on the far turn and drawing off to win the $125,000 LA Bred Premier Night Prince Stakes at Delta Downs by three lengths on Saturday, Feb. 7.

It was the first Stakes win for the three-year-old Midshipman colt, who previously had finished second in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes over the same course Dec. 13.

Owned and bred by Rebecca Farms LLC in Louisiana, Scar Ship is out of the winning Dixie Union mare, Hopeful Union, who has produced seven winners from eight foals to race. The immediate female family has also produced Graded Stakes winners Got Stormy (G1), Extra Candy, Penny’s Reshoot, Overdriven, and Smooth Air.

In addition to Scar Ship, Midshipman is also the sire of Anegada, a three-time Stakes winner who recently captured the $200,000 John B. Connelly Turf Cup at Sam Houston Race Park. Midshipman is also the sire of 2025 two-time Graded Stakes winner, Surface to Air; two-time Stakes winner, Kontiki; and Stakes winners Snow Face Princess (Bolton Landing Stakes); Royal Testament (Rosie’s Stakes); Gerrards Cross (Colleen Stakes); Navy Seal and One Last Chance.

Midshipman will stand the 2026 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $15,000, stands and nurses.
