Snow Face Princess takes the prize in Listed Bolton Landing Stakes

Two-year-old filly caps off big weekend of Stakes winners for Midshipman

Snow Face Princess took advantage of a lively early pace and timed her run to perfection as she reeled in favored Cy Fair nearing the wire to win the Listed Bolton Landing Stakes by a neck at Saratoga Aug. 17.

The victory by the juvenile filly capped off a banner weekend for her sire, Midshipman, who was also the sire of Surface to Air, winner of the G3 Philip H. Iselin at Monmouth Park. Just two days prior to that, yet another promising juvenile filly, Kontiki, notched her second Stakes win by taking the Miss Ohio Stakes at Thistledown.

After breaking a bit awkwardly at the start, Snow Face Princess was settled off the pace in fourth early, as My Sweetheart and Cy Fair vied for the lead. Cy Fair put away My Sweetheart and took the lead on the far turn, but Snow Face Princess was getting into gear and beginning to make her move.

Cy Fair continued to lead in deep stretch, but Snow Face Princess was rolling down the center of the course and was able to reel in Cy Fair nearing the wire to get the victory.

Snow Face Princess was bred in Kentucky by the Paul Tackett Revocable Trust, Chris Tackett, and Julie Tackett, and was purchased by West Bloodstock, agent, for $110,000 at the 2024 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October yearling sale. She is the second winner from two foals to race out of Crusin Alone (Honor Code), who produced a filly by Mystic Guide this year. Crusin Alone, who is out of the G3 winner, Moonlight Sonata, is a half-sister to G2 Stakes winners Wilburn (Bernardini) and Beethoven (Sky Mesa). Also hailing from the immediate family are Graded Stakes winners Grand Sonata, Moonlight d’Oro, and Ballerina d’Oro (all by Medaglia d’Oro) and Champion Abel Tasman (Quality Road).

Midshipman is also the sire of Colleen Stakes winner Gerrards Cross, Nodouble Breeders’ Stakes Navy Seal, three-time Stakes winner One Last Chance, and three 2025 Chilean G1 winners: Lucky Red (G1 El Derby), The Goat (G1 Dos Mil Guineas, G1 St. Leger), and Cassis Violeta (G1 Las Oaks).
