Frosted's two-year-old son Frosted Prayer went gate-to-wire to win by ten lengths on the dirt at Churchill Downs on opening day of Kentucky Derby week.
Sent off as the even money favorite in the six-and-a-half furlong contest, Frosted Prayer broke alertly under jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr., went straight to the lead and never looked back, pulling away through the stretch to win easily by ten lengths in his third lifetime start.
Bred in Kentucky by Lewis Lakin's Lakland Farm, Frosted Prayer is out of the Stakes-placed Songandaprayer mare Stormandaprayer, a daughter of G1 Spinaway winner Stormy Pick. In addition to Frosted Prayer, Stormandaprayer is also the dam of G3-placed Harlands Thunder.
Frosted Prayer becomes the second winner for his freshman sire, whose 123 Beyer Speed Figure in the G1 Met Mile is still the highest since 2007. Frosted's first winner, TDN Rising Star and six-length Ellis Park debut winner Inject, runs this Thursday in the G3 Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs.
