Wonder Gadot flies to victory in $1,000,000 Queen’s Plate

Daughter of Medaglia d’Oro defeats the boys to take first jewel in Canadian Triple Crown

Wonder Gadot took command at the top of the stretch and never looked back as she rolled to a five-length victory in the $1,000,000 Queen’s Plate at Woodbine Racecourse 30 June.

Sporting blinkers for the first time, the three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro entered the race off three consecutive runner-up finishes, including narrow defeats in the Woodbine Oaks and G1 Kentucky Oaks.

Sent off as the 2-1 favorite in the field of sixteen, Wonder Gadot stalked the leaders from fifth through the early stages of the race. Ridden confidently by John Velazquez, Wonder Gadot cruised up to the leaders on the far turn, then took command in the stretch to win easily.

Bred in Ontario by Anderson Farms, LLC, Wonder Gadot is out of the winning Vindication mare, Loving Vindication. Wonder Gadot, who was named Canada’s Champion Two-Year-Old Filly in 2017, is a full sister to Stakes winner Solemn Tribute, and she hails from the immediate family of Chimichurri, winner of the G3 Tempted Stakes, Champion Mashaallah and Folk Art, winner of the G1 Oak Leaf Stakes.

In addition to Wonder Gadot, Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of 2018 Graded Stakes winners Bolt d’Oro (G2 San Felipe) and Enticed (G3 Gotham Stakes). The stallion was the sire of seven G1 winners in 2017, more than any other stallion in North America. His G1 winners last year included two Breeders’ Cup winners – Talismanic (Turf) and Bar Of Gold (Filly & Mare Sprint).
