Winterberry freezes her competition and goes wire-to-wire in Woodbine’s Fury Stakes

Frosted filly earns her second Stakes win in front-running style

Winterberry took the lead right out of the starting gate and turned back a mild challenge from Nata Trouble to win the $125,000 Fury Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday, 7 June.

The victory marked the second Stakes win for the three-year-old daughter of Frosted, who improved her overall record to three wins in six starts. Winterberry captured the Listed Glorious Song Stakes at Woodbine as a juvenile.

Winterberry broke sharply and was hustled right to the front by jockey Patrick Husbands, and she easily settled into a comfortable gallop, maintaining a one-length lead over Nata Trouble heading down the backstretch. Winterberry’s stablemate and the betting favorite, Shifty (Medaglia d’Oro), tracked those two from third, about two lengths further back.

Winterberry began to quicken the tempo on the far turn, where she was challenged by Nata Trouble, who loomed a threat to her outside as she drew closer. Winterberry switched leads at the top of the stretch and spurted free of her rival, eventually crossing the wire one-and-a-quarter lengths in front. Nata Trouble easily held second, with Shifty never threatening and finishing third.

Bred in Ontario by Anderson Farms Ont., Winterberry is out of Dreams Are Free, a winning daughter of Bellamy Road. Dreams Are Free is out of Stakes-placed Off Limits and is a half-sister to G1-placed Off Topic (by Street Sense).

Sire of 34 Stakes winners, Frosted is represented by 2025 G3 Gotham Stakes winner Flood ZoneWhite Rocks, winner of the Cincinnati Trophy Stakes at Turfway Park, and Frost At Dawn who took the Listed Cecil Frail Stakes at Haydock.

Frosted is standing the 2025 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $15,000 stands and nurses.
