Victory tastes sweet for Sugar Treat at Gulfstream Park

Two-year-old filly takes maiden special weight to give Enticed his first winner

Sugar Treat came with a determined run down the center of the course to nail Escape Room in the shadow of the wire to win a five furlong, Maiden Special Weight contest over the Tapeta course at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, 10 June.

The two-year-old filly became the first winner for her sire, Enticed, whose first crop hit the track this year.

Breaking alertly out of the starting gate, Sugar Treat was forwardly placed by jockey Edgar Perez, racing in fourth but just a length behind leader Escape Room as she saved ground along the inside rail. After steading slightly entering the far turn, Sugar Treat was angled out three-wide as they hit the top of the lane for a clear run at the leader. Closing determinedly down the stretch, Sugar Treat got up in the final strides to collar Escape Room and post a half-length victory.

Bred in Florida by Ocala Stud, Sugar Treat is out of the War Front mare, Brown Glaze, and is a half-sister to multiple Stakes-placed Absolute Grit and Graded Stakes-placed Bet On Mookie. Brown Glaze herself is a half-sister to multiple Stakes winners and Graded Stakes-placed Lucky Livi and Lottacosta.

Sugar Treat, who was purchased by co-owner D.J. Stable for $120,000 at the 2023 OBS March Sale, is the first winner from just four starters so far for her sire, Enticed. Winner of the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes and placed in the G1 Champagne (in just his second start) as a juvenile, Enticed captured the G3 Gotham and was second in the G2 Wood Memorial at age three. His first crop are two-year-olds this year.
