Tenacious Demar’s Legacy prevails in maiden special weight battle at Gulfstream Park

Daughter of Enticed won’t be denied when winning her career debut

Demar’s Legacy and Bigbouquetofroses were locked in battle from the start, but at the wire it was a determined Demar’s Legacy that prevailed to take a maiden special weight contest by a neck at Gulfstream Park on Sunday, 23 July.

The two-year-old first-time starter by Enticed became the third winner for her sire, joining Desert Sand and Sugar Treat on the winner’s honor roll.

Despite bumping with another rival a few strides out of the starting gate, Demar’s Legacy was up quickly battling for the lead with fellow first-time starter, Bigbouquetofroses in the six-furlong contest. With Bigbouquetofroses on the rail and Demar’s Legacy to her outside, the two fillies were locked in a contentious duel through the remainder of the race, with Demar’s Legacy eventually inching away nearing the wire to claim the victory.

Bred in Florida by CESA Farm and New Horizon Farm, Demar’s Legacy was purchased for $120,000 at the 2023 OBS April Sale and is out of Mooji’s Empire, a winning daughter of Empire Maker. Second dam is multiple Stakes winner, Mooji Moo, who has also produced Stakes winner Mooji Moo Jr., and is the granddam of Stakes winner and Graded Stakes-placed Empire of Gold.

Winner of the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes and placed in the G1 Champagne (in just his second start) as a juvenile, Enticed captured the G3 Gotham and was second in the G2 Wood Memorial at age three. His first runners are debuting in 2023.
