Street Sense’s Maxfield an impressive winner in first start in seven months

Three-year-old remains undefeated, now four for four
Maxfield winning the G1 Breeder's Futurity

On the shelf since his win in the G3 Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill on May 23rd, Street Sense's three-year-old son Maxfield returned in great form to win the Listed Tenacious Stakes at the Fair Grounds for his fourth win from four career starts. His three other wins include a breakout performance in the G1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland in 2019.

The solid odds-on post time favorite, Maxfield broke alertly from the gate and tracked behind the leader for most of the one and one-sixteenth mile event. Jockey Florent Geroux began to ask his mount for more run as the field entered the stretch and Maxfield responded to his urging to quickly gain the lead. From there on, it was a one-horse race as he continued his workman-like effort to post the win.

Bred and owned in Kentucky by Godolphin, Maxfield is out of the mare Velvety, a winning daughter of Darley stallion, Bernardini. Velvety is out of the multiple Graded Stakes-winner, Caress (G3 Beaugay, G3 Poker H., etc.), and is a half-sister to Sky Mesa (G1 Hopeful) and Golden Velvet (G3 Sixty Sails).

Street Sense's other Graded Stakes winners in 2020 include G2 Triple Bend winner McKinzie, a lifetime winner of four G1 events, multiple G3 winner Shared Sense, and other G3 winner Cazadero. No other stallion in 2020 has sired more three-year-old Graded winning colt on dirt than Street Sense. His lifetime body of work includes more than 30 Graded winners, including 12 at the highest level.

He will stand at Darley's Jonabell Farm in 2020 at a fee of $60,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
