Street Sense dominates first-season sires

The history-maker continues to outshine all stallions in his category, recording impressive averages across the board

As the second day of selling concluded at the 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale in Australia, Street Cry’s best son Street Sense continued to record positive results, achieving an average of $316,429, higher than any stallion with three or more to sell except for Redoute’s Choice.

With three individual lots selling during the second day, the highlight was the Widden Stud-consigned hip 341. A three-quarter brother to G1 Melbourne Cup and Dubai Australian Cup winner Shocking (by Street Cry), this colt was knocked down to the trainer of Shocking, Mark Kavanagh for $450,000.

Earlier in the day Tim Martin Bloodstock purchased two yearlings by Street Sense, signing for hip 241, a filly out of the G1 winner Fine Society for $80,000 and also hip 244, the second foal of the multiple G1-performing Danehill mare Flora Danica for $350,000.

Fellow Darley first-season sire Bernardini (pictured) was also making his presence felt, with the Willow Park-consigned hip 225 realizing $440,000 to UK-based J. Warren. Out of the Royal Academy mare Dora Maar, this filly is a half-brother Stakes winner Mrs Kipling, by Darley stallion Exceed And Excel, and comes from the famed Twiglet family of G1 winners Fairy King Prawn and Easy Rocking.
