Starfish Bay sprints to Stakes success

From New York to Old York, Elusive Quality just keeps siring black-type winners

Just a day after siring the G3 Acomb Stakes winner Elusive Pimpernel at York in the UK, Elusive Quality recorded yet another new Stakes winner when Starfish Bay landed the Listed From New York To Old York Stakes at Saratoga.

Bred by owner Gainesway Thoroghbreds Ltd, Starfish Bay is a daughter of Touch Love (Not For Love) and took the five-and-a-half furlong (1100m) sprint contest by an impressive length and three-quarters after easily shaking off her eight rivals.

This was the three-year-old’s third win, having struck over a mile on debut at Gulfstream park back in February before being dropped in distance to six then five furlongs, over which trip she won at Monmouth in July. Starfish bay has clearly found her niche in the sprinting division as she won her second start by three-and-a-quarter lengths and is clearly a filly on the upgrade.

Elusive Quality is also the sire in 2009 of Graded Stakes winners Quality Road, Royal Michele and True Quality and, of course, of last season’s Breeders’ Cup Turf hero, Raven's Pass, now standing as a stallion for Darley in Ireland.
