Starfish Bay lands the Very One Stakes

Daughter of Elusive Quality continues her sire’s fine season when notching her second Stakes win of 2010

Elusive Quality is enjoying a successful year so far, with eight Stakes winners to his name already including G1 winner Quality Road and fellow record breakers Raihana and West Ocean. On Friday one of his Stakes winners – Starfish Bay - added further Black type to her resume when landing the Very One Stakes at Pimlico.

Soon in front, the Todd Pletcher-trained four-year-old set the pace traveling on the inside and despite eventual runner-up Suzzona throwing down a strong challenge in the stretch, Starfish Bay could not be caught and recorded a neck victory with Kosmo’s Buddy a further length and a quarter back in third.

This was Starfish Bay’s fifth career win and her third at Stakes level having also won at this level over five and a half furlongs at Saratoga at three and taking the Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes at Gulfstream on her four-year-old debut. Bred by Gainesway Thoroughbreds, she is out of the G2 winner Touch Love (Not For Love).
