Speaker’s Corner scores 106 Beyer in G2 Gulfstream Park Mile

Street Sense colt overcomes slow start to notch his second straight Graded Stakes win

Speaker’s Corner was off a step slowly out of the starting gate but had nothing but clear sailing after that on his way to posting a five-and-a-half length victory in the G2 WinStar Gulfstream Park Mile on Saturday, 5 March.

It was the second straight Graded Stakes win for the four-year-old son of Street Sense, who started off his year with a victory in the G3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes in January.

Despite breaking a step slowly, Speaker’s Corner advanced along the inside rail and took over the lead after the first quarter-mile. He continued to set the pace while hugging the inside rail, then shook clear at the quarter pole and drew off in the stretch to post the impressive victory.

Bred in Kentucky by Godolphin, Speaker’s Corner is out of the unraced Bernardini mare, Tyburn Brook. His second dam is Multiple Graded Stakes winner Round Pond (Awesome Again), winner of the both the G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff and G1 Acorn Stakes. Round Pond has also produced Long River (A.P. Indy), winner of the G1 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 and G3-placed Lake Lucerne (Dubawi).

Street Sense is now the sire of 11 G1 winners, including new Darley stallion and multiple G1 winner Maxfield. Maxfield earned over $1.5 million in 2021 alone helping to push his sire's total progeny earning last year to over $10 million. His runners in 2021 also included G2 winners Concert Tour and Zaajel

Street Sense is standing the 2022 season for a fee of $75,000 stands and nurses.
