Speaker’s Corner dominates G1 Carter Handicap

Four-year-old Street Sense colt remains undefeated in 2022

Speaker’s Corner earned his third straight Graded Stakes victory with a dominating performance to take the G1 Carter Handicap by five lengths at Aqueduct Saturday, 9 April.

The Carter was the first G1 win for the four-year-old colt by Street Sense, who remains undefeated in three starts this year. In addition to the Carter, Speaker’s Corner has posted victories in the G2 Gulfstream Park Mile and G3 Fred Hooper.

Speaker’s Corner broke alertly from his outside post and quickly went up to challenge Reinvestment Risk and Mind Control for the early lead. Taking command near the half-mile pole, Speaker’s Corner began to pull away, while remaining under a hand-ride. The talented colt continued to cruise through the stretch, eventually winning by just under five lengths while being geared down at the wire.

Bred in Kentucky by Godolphin, Speaker’s Corner is out of the unraced Bernardini mare, Tyburn Brook. His second dam is Multiple Graded Stakes winner Round Pond (Awesome Again), winner of the both the G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff and G1 Acorn Stakes. Round Pond has also produced Long River (A.P. Indy), winner of the G1 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 and G3-placed Lake Lucerne (Dubawi).

Street Sense is now the sire of 12 G1 winners, including new Darley stallion and multiple G1 winner Maxfield. Maxfield earned over $1.5 million in 2021 alone helping to push his sire's total progeny earning last year to over $10 million. In addition to Speaker’s Corner, Street Sense is represented this season by Heaven Street, winner of the Listed Columbia Stakes.

Street Sense is standing the 2022 season for a fee of $75,000 stands and nurses.
