Shipmate prevails in the Iowa Stallion Futurity

Two-year-old daughter of Midshipman defeats colts to remain undefeated

Shipmate earned her first Stakes victory when she repelled the challenge of Fools Rushin to win the Iowa Stallion Futurity at Prairie Meadows July 8.

The two-year-old daughter of Midshipman broke alertly in the five-and-a-half-furlong contest and was sent to the lead. She was soon joined by Dancing With Eve, and those two matched strides through the first three furlongs of the race.

Shipmate put away that rival on the far turn, but was soon joined by Fools Rushin, and the duo battled the length of the stretch with Shipmate finally prevailing by a determined neck.

Shipmate was bred in Minnesota by her owners, Richard Bremer and Cheryl Sprick, and is out of the Storm Boot mare, Thigh High Boots. Shipmate is a half-sister to multiple Stakes winners Bet Your Boots (by Birdstone) and Bet Your Life (by Giacomo).

Among Midshipman’s top runners are multiple Stakes winner and G1-placed Lady Shipman, San Pedro Stakes winner Yiannis, Azalea Stakes winner Dearest, Riskaverse Stakes winner Stormy Regatta, and Happy Ticket Stakes winner Naval Command.
