Street Sense two-year-old In The Beat is sire's 12th winner

Street Sense's two-year-old son In The Beat became the sire's 12th winner November 26 with a strong victory in a Churchill Downs Maiden Special Weight. Owned by Jim Tafel and trained by Carl Nafzger, In The Beat boasts the same connections as his Kentucky Derby-winning sire.

In the six furlong race the son of Street Sense settled well back of the field in second last. The colt gradually began to pick up the pace and slipped along the rail on the inside to prove victorious in the final strides.

In The Beat was bred by SF Bloodstock and is the first foal for Rhythmical Beat, by Fusaichi Pegasus. The mare is a half-sister to Stakes winner and sire Mutakddim, G1-placed Smooth Charmer, and Takesmybreathaway - the dam of G1 winner Frost Giant. In The Beat was a $180,000 yearling purchase.

Street Sense, by Street Cry, was the sensational winner of both the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and G1 Kentucky Derby - the only horse to ever do so. His twelve winners and two Graded Stakes horses include G3 Iroquois Stakes winner Motor City, G1 Frizette-placed Miss Netta, and repeat winner Sensible Lady.
