Post Time proved a bit rank at the start and then had to overcome a slow early pace, but he would not be denied victory as he drew off from his rivals to win the $125,000 Deputed Testamony Stakes at Laurel Park by three-and-a-half lengths on Saturday, 28 June.
The victory was his second from three starts this year for the five-year-old horse by Frosted, who remains undefeated in nine starts at Laurel Park. Post Time began the season with a win over his home track on 3 May, then was a good third to Mystik Dan in the G3 Blame Stakes at Churchill Downs in his previous start.
Post Time broke sharply and was a bit keen early, but jockey Sheldon Russell quickly got him settled and into a comfortable rhythm as the pair settled into third, content to track front runner Speedyness through the early going. Contrary to his name, Speedyness was not fleet-of-foot, setting soft early fractions of :25.79 and :51.16 through the opening half-mile.
Post Time still raced in third down the backstretch but began to make up ground on the far turn, taking over second from Offaly Cool as they hit the top of the homestretch. Post Time was set down for the drive with just over a furlong left to run and he responded, reeling in Speedyness to take command in the final sixteenth of a mile to score a comfortable three-and-a-half length win.
Bred in Maryland by Dr. & Mrs. Thomas Bowman, Dr. Brooke Bowman and Milton P. Higgins III, Post Time is out of the mare Vielsalm, a Stakes-winning daughter of Fairbanks. Vielsalm is a full sister to Stakes-placed Open the Bank, and hails from the family of G1 winners Rose’s Cantina and Fancy Naskra.
Sire of 34 Stakes winners, Frosted is represented by 2025 G3 Gotham Stakes winner Flood Zone; White Rocks, winner of the Cincinnati Trophy Stakes at Turfway Park, and Frost At Dawn who took the Listed Cecil Frail Stakes at Haydock.
