Perfection in equine form

Record-breaking Zenyatta extends her unbeaten run to win her third consecutive G1 Vanity Handicap

What more can be said of Zenyatta? The Street Cry mare is, quite simply, the perfect racehorse. Seventeen starts for the same number of wins. That tally added to this weekend with her third successive triumph in Hollywood Park’s G1 Vanity Handicap, a win which took her past the modern-day record of 16 straight victories in races not restricted to state-breds.

Carrying 129lbs, just as she did last year, Zenyatta dropped out to the back of the field in her customary fashion before winding up her now famous winning run, hitting the wire a head in front of runner-up St Trinians.

Bred by Maverick Productions and raced by Jerry and Ann Moss, her 11 Grade One victories include the Apple Blossom H (twice), the Lady’s Secret S (twice), the Vanity H (three times), the Clement L Hirsch H, the Santa Margarita Invitational H, the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic and, of course, the Breeders’ Cup Classic itself.

Zenyatta may be his brightest star to date but she is just one of 11 individual G1 winners for Street Cry, including Kentucky Derby hero Street Sense, smart sprinter Street Boss, Melbourne Cup winner Shocking and the Caulfield Guineas winner Whobegotyou.
