Perfect Wish shines at Prairie Meadows in the Iowa Stallion Filly Stakes

Three-year-old Midshipman filly dominates in her Stakes debut

Perfect Wish made every pole a winning one to take the Iowa Stallion Filly Stakes by seven and three-quarter lengths at Prairie Meadows on Friday, 21 July.

It was the first Stakes victory for the three-year-old Midshipman filly, who now has won three of her six career starts.

A field of seven sophomore fillies when to the post in the mile and seventy-yard contest, with Perfect Wish sent off as the heavy favorite. The dark bay/brown filly justified that favoritism, breaking sharply out of the gate and never looking back, eventually drawing off in the stretch to win quite easily.

Bred in Kentucky by Stonehaven Steadings, Perfect Wish is out of Can You Talk, an unraced daughter of Tale of the Cat. Can You Talk is out of the Stakes-placed mare, Earlybird Road (by Cherokee Run), and is a half-sister to Stakes winner and multiple Graded Stakes-placed Strongconstitution and Stakes-placed Four Inch Heels.

Midshipman's 17% career Black Type horses from starters continues to be among the best in the business - no stallion under $55k can top it. His 25 Black Type horses in 2022 were more than any other stallion under $100k. They included G2 San Diego winner Royal Ship and G3 Pocahontas winner Fun and Feisty, plus two other juvenile Stakes winners.
