Quiet American eight-year-old Delaware River wins third successive Smarty Jones Classic Stakes; Cherokee Run gelding triumphs in Listed class

Delaware River and Que Paso proved that age is no barrier to success when each winning Listed races on Saturday.

An eight-year-old by Quiet American, the redoubtable Delaware River recorded the sixteenth success of his lengthy career when winning the Smart Jones Classic Stakes, which is named in honour of Elusive Quality's Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes-winning son, for the third year running. Bred by land Of Believe Farm, Inc., Delaware River is out of Alphe, a daughter of Theatrical.

Que Paso, a six-year-old son of Cherokee Run, is another regular scorer who has now 11 races. Saturday’s victory in the $75,000 Listed Unbridled Handicap at Louisiana Downs was his first Stakes success for owner Coby Tresner. The gelding is out of Gone Private, by Private Account, and was bred by Carolyn L Nicewonder.
