Dame Ellen, a three-year-old daughter of Elusive Quality, became the ninth Black type winner for her sire this year when landing the Perfect Sting Stakes at Belmont Park on June 26.
Recording her third straight win, Dame Ellen did not enjoy the smoothest of runs in the one-and-one-sixteenth mile contest, but despite being sharply checked close to home ran on gamely to win by half a length.
Bred by Charles H Wacker, Dame Ellen is out of the Royal Academy mare Sleepytime, who won the G1 1,000 Guineas when trained in the United Kingdom. She is also dam of G3 winner and multiple Stakes winner Gentleman’s Deal and the Stakes-placed colt Spanish Harlem.
Elusive Quality, who stands at Darley America in Kentucky, is also sire of G1 winner Quality Road this year, together with G2-winning duo Royale Michele and True Quality.
