In The Navy sails to an easy victory in the Frank L. Brothers Stakes

Midshipman gelding goes ‘coast to coast’ to notch his third Stakes win

In The Navy took the lead at the start and was never headed as he cruised to a sharp three-and-a-half-length win in the Frank L. Brothers Stakes at Louisiana Downs Sept. 7.

It was the third Stakes victory for the five-year-old gelding by Midshipman. He has also tallied victories in the Louisiana Cup Turf Classic Stakes and the Mr. Sulu Overnight Stakes.

In The Navy broke alertly from the starting gate and went straight to the lead. He was soon joined by Big Changes, who, like In The Navy, was also a son of Midshipman. Big Changes raced about a half-length off In The Navy, never letting his younger rival relax on the lead.

In The Navy finally shook loose from Big Changes at the eighth pole and pulled away through the stretch to post an easy victory.

Bred in Louisiana by his owner, Kendel Standlee, In The Navy is out of Southern Princess, by Dixieland Band.  In The Navy hails from the female family of Stakes winners Pleasantly Free, Dixie Pearl and Cornish Snow.

In addition to In The Navy, Midshipman is the sire of 2019 Stakes winners Mr Vargas (G3 Green Flash Stakes); Tweet, (G1 Grande Premio Joao Cecilio Ferraz in Brazil); Old Shipman (G3 Grande Premio Presidente Augusto de Souza Queiroz in Brazil); Princess Warrior (Latonia Stakes); Big Changes (Sunshine Millions Turf); Minecraft Maniac (Governor Terry E. Branstad Stakes) and Is Too (Louisiana Cup Distaff).
