In The Navy Now sails past rivals to win the Nellie Morse Stakes

Daughter of Midshipman rallies in the stretch to notch her first Stakes win

In The Navy Now swept past the frontrunners in deep stretch to win the Nellie Morse Stakes by a head at Laurel Park.

The Nellie Morse marked the first Stakes victory for the Ultra-consistent daughter of Midshipman, who has now finished in the money in 15 of 17 lifetime starts.

Settled at the rear of the field through the early stages of the race, In The Navy Now began closing on the leaders on the far turn. At the top of the stretch she was swung wide and into the clear by jockey Julien Pimentel, and the duo swept past the frontrunners in the final sixteenth of a mile to post the victory.

Bred in Kentucky by Greenwood Lodge Farm LLC, In The Navy Now is out of the Stakes-placed Broad Brush mare, Looking Afar. In The Navy Now is a half-sister to Nefertini, winner of the G2 Go For Wand Stakes, and hails from the family of G1 winners Seeking The Gold and Fast Play.

In The Navy Now is the 16th Stakes winner for her sire, Midshipman. The Champion son of Unbridled’s Song was represented by 2017 Stakes winners Slip The Cable, Firstmate and Big Changes. Midshipman is also the sire of Princess Warrior, runner-up in the G1 Darley Alcibiades last year.

Midshipman is standing the 2018 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $8,500, stands and nurses.
