Midshipman’s Redbeard breaks her maiden at Aqueduct

Two-year-old filly is the 14th winner for her freshman sire

Redbeard broke her maiden over a sloppy track at Aqueduct on November 6th to become Midshipman’s 14th two-year-old winner.

In the one mile event, Redbeard sat in second down the backstretch, stalked the pace while three wide on the turn, continued to gain on the front runner through the stretch, and took command in late stretch to win by a half-length.

Bred in New York by Joseph and Jennifer Daniels, Redbeard is out of the winning Brunswick mare Screen Happy.  She was a $45,000 two-year-old in training purchase for her connections earlier this year at OBS.

Midshipman is off to an exciting start at stud, with 13 other winners including Happy Ticket Stakes winner Naval Command, Keeneland maiden winner Frammento, and Santa Anita maiden winner All Star Bub.  Midshipman was named the Champion Two-Year-Old Colt in 2008 after winning the G1 Del Mar Futurity and the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Midshipman will stand the 2015 breeding season for $7,500 live foal, stands and nurses.
