Merhee takes Senor Santa Handicap in South Africa

Newest Stakes winner for Elusive Quality

Merhee, a five-year-old son of Elusive Quality, posted a victory in the Senor Santa Handicap at Turffontein in South Africa April 6. He becomes the newest Stakes winner for the world-class sire in the 1160 meter turf race. Merhee's record is now four wins in seven starts.

The Mike De Kock-trained horse was bred by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and is out of the Stakes-placed mare Dizzy De Lago, by Encosta De Lago. He is a half-brother to Musir, a multiple Group winner whose victories include the G2 Al Rashidiya at Meydan.

With quality runners around the world, Elusive Quality has sired the likes of G1 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Raven's Pass, G1 Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones, and Australian Champion Sepoy. Last year was a fantastic year for the sire, whose top runners included unbeaten European Champion two-year-old filly Certify and G1-winning miler Elusive Kate.

Elusive Quality stands at Darley USA for $50,000 Stands and Nurses.
