Medaglia d’Oro’s $1 million yearling held the top spot on day one of Keeneland’s September Sale on Monday, September 13, but the sire of Songbird wasn’t done yet with several six-figure yearlings giving him strong representation on the sale’s second day.
Hip 298, from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, brought an exceptional physical and pedigree into the ring justifying a final price of $750,000. Out of the multiple Stakes-winning/multiple G2-placed Distorted Passion, the bay filly is a full sister to Medagalia d’Oro’s G2 winner/G1-placed Mrs. McDougal.
About a half hour later, a good-looking Medaglia d’Oro colt from the Darby Dan Farm consignment fetched a price of $500,000 with Kempton/Berkelhammer, acting as agents, signing the ticket for the Albaugh Family Stable. Sold as hip number 324, the dark bay or brown yearling is a half to Stakes winner/G1-placed Time And Motion, Stakes winner and G2-placed Awesome Bet and multiple Graded Stakes-placed Moment In Dixie.
Bernardini maintained his consistent popularity once again in the sales ring, exemplified by hip number 235, a gorgeous filly from the barn of VanMeter-Gentry Sales acting as agent. A bay, she is a full sister to Bernardini’s G1-winning daughter A Z Warrior, G2 winner Jojo Warrior, G3 winner E Z Warrior and four-time Stakes winer and G3-placed J A Warrior. China Horse Club signed the ticket for $475,000.
First-crop yearling sire Animal Kingdom continued to be one of the more desired first-crop sires with his daughter out of the mare Eltimaas, hip number 325, bringing $410,000. The filly’s pedigree was improved significantly when her half-brother Drefong won the G1 King’s Bishop on August 27th. Drefong’s owner, Juddmonte Farm, was the winning bidder.
