McKinzie waves goodbye in Malibu

Son of Street Sense scores third G1 win in seven starts

Three-year-old Street Sense colt McKinzie ran away to a breathtaking victory in the seven-furlong G1 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita Park on December 26th to earn his third career G1 win in seven starts.  He previously won the G1 Pennsylvania Derby earlier this year and the G1 Los Alamitos Futurity last year as a two-year-old.

Near the back of the pack early in the Malibu, McKinzie started to gain on the leaders around the turn before making a tremendous move through the strech to pull away and win easily by eight lengths under a hand ride from regular rider Mike Smith.

Bred in Kentucky by Summer Wind Farm, McKinzie is out of the multiple Graded Stakes winning mare, Runway Model, winner of the G2 Darley Alcibiades, G2 Golden Rod, and placed in the G1 Ashland Stakes. McKinzie is a half-brother to Stakes-placed Rompin Reid (by Medaglia d’Oro), and hails from the family of Graded Stakes winners Saham (G3 Jefferson Cup) and Sea Ditty (G3 Affectionately Handicap).

In addition to McKinzie, Street Sense is represented by Graded Stakes winners Avery Island, The Lieutenant, Tiger Moth, and Doctor Mounty in 2018.

Street Sense will stand the 2019 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for $50,000, stands and nurses.
