Major honor for Zenyatta’s dam

Vertigineux named broodmare of the year following the extraordinary exploits of her daughter by Street Cry

The Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association has named Vertigineux, the dam of Street Cry's 2008 champion filly and Eclipse award winner Zenyatta, as broodmare of the year.

Vertigineux currently has a filly foal by Bernardini, who was born on January 27, and it is with her daughters that the Kris S mare has excelled as she is also the dam of multiple Grade One-winning heroine Balance and Remington Park Oaks winner Where’s Bailey.

In Zenyatta, however, she has produced a racehorse of truly exceptional ability. Untried until her four-year-old season, the tall bay daughter of Street Cry made up for lost time in unbelievable fashion, closing out 2008 unbeaten in nine starts with four Grade One victories and earnings of $2,144,580 to her name.

Zenyatta is one of nine individual Grade or Group One winners for Street Cry, including Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense and crack sprinter Street Boss, who stand alongside their sire at Darley.
