Lady Shipman works in a victory on Labor Day by taking the Turf Amazon at Parx

Daughter of Midshipman earns fifth Stakes win out of seven starts in 2016

Lady Shipman continued to show her prowess in turf sprints when taking the $200,000 Turf Amazon at Parx Racing by one length September 5.

Breaking sharply under jockey Joel Rosario, Lady Shipman sat just off the pace in second through the early stages of the race. Lady Shipman went to the lead at the top of the stretch and was never seriously threatened as she cruised under the wire under a hand ride.

It was the second straight Stakes win for the four-year-old daughter of Midshipman, who entered the race off a victory in the G3 Royal North Stakes at Woodbine. Lady Shipman is in the midst of a banner season, having won five Stakes races in seven starts this year.

Bred in Kentucky by owner Randall E. Lowe, Lady Shipman is out of Sumthingtotalkabt, a half-sister to Stakes winner Rules Of War and Graded Stakes-placed Nanogram. The filly's second dam is multiple Stakes winner Nannetta.

Midshipman's lifetime 18.3% Black type horses from starters is best among all Kentucky stallions standing for $75,000 or less. Among Midshipman’s other top runners are San Pedro Stakes winner YiannisShipmate, winner of both the Iowa Stallion Futurity and Northern Lights Debutante; Colleen Stakes winner Red Lodge; Azalea Stakes winner Dearest; Riskaverse Stakes winner Stormy Regatta; and Happy Ticket Stakes winner Naval Command.
