Lady Shipman too fast in Stormy Blues Stakes

Midshipman filly wins second Stakes in a row

Three-year-old Midshipman filly Lady Shipman ran them off her feet April 18 with an impressive score in the Stormy Blues Stakes at Pimlico.

Sent off as the 1-2 favorite in the five-furlong turf sprint, Lady Shipman was speedy out of the gate and quickly vied for the early lead. Around the far turn it was clear that no one could catch her, and she put forward a dazzling display down the stretch to open up by an effortless five-lengths. It was the second Stakes win in a row for the filly, who previously won the OBS Sprint Stakes by a tremendous eight lengths. Lady Shipman is now a consistent four-for-five lifetime.

Bred by Randall E. Lowe, Lady Shipman is out of Sumthingtotalkabout, a half-sister to Stakes winner Rules Of War and Graded-placed runner Nanogram. The filly's second dam is multiple Stakes winner Nannetta.

Other top runners for Midshipman include recent San Pedro Stakes winner and highly regarded Yiannis, Happy Ticket Stakes winner Naval Command, and G2 Fountain Of Youth Stakes-placed Frammento. Honored as Eclipse Champion Two-Year-Old, Midshipman was the fastest winner of the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Midshipman stands the 2015 breeding season for $7,500 live foal, stands and nurses.
