La Cara, a three-year-old daughter of Street Sense, was a gate-to-wire winner of the G1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland on Monday, April 7, stamping her ticket to the G1 Kentucky Oaks.
La Cara went straight to the lead and never looked back under jockey Dylan Davis, winning by more than a length over Take Charge Milady, with Muhimma another three lengths back in third. It was La Cara's second graded win, following last fall’s G3 Pocahontas at Churchill Downs. She also won the Suncoast Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs in February and was second in the G1 Davona Dale at Gulfstream on March 1.
Trained by Mark Casse and bred in Kentucky by her owner, Tracy Farmer, La Cara is out of the Bernardini mare Cara Caterina, a full sister to G1 winners To Honor and Serve and Angela Renee. Her second dam is Stakes winner, Pilfer, who has also produced Stakes winner and G1-placed Elnaawi (Street Sense).
La Cara becomes the 13th career G1 winner for her sire. Additional recent Stakes winners for Street Sense include Kinetic, winner of the General MacArthur Overnight Stakes at Oaklawn Park in 2025, along with First Mission (G2 Alysheba S., G3 Essex H.), Never Explain (G3 Tampa Bay S.) and Comparative (G3 Bayakoa S.) in 2024.
Street Sense stands at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $50,000, stands and nurses.
