Ingratiating becomes Frosted’s first Australian 3YO winner

G3 Vain Stakes win opens the door on major spring sprints

Ingratiating added immensely to his own standing and further enhanced the soaring reputation of his sire Frosted with a masterful first-up victory in the G3 Vain Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, 14 August.

Having established himself as one of Australia’s best juveniles with a Listed win and G1 placings in last season’s best 2YO races, the Blue Diamond Stakes and the Golden Slipper, Ingratiating always had control in his return as a 3YO.

Jockey Damien Oliver settled the colt at the rear of the small field and his confidence never wavered as he eased to the outside with 300m to run, rounded up the leaders at the 100m and went to the line untouched.

In a one-two finish for the Darley stallions, General Beau, a son of Brazen Beau, held second place a length behind the winner and just ahead of Generation.

Ingratiating is one of Frosted">Frosted’s five Stakes winners, with the group led by dual American Stakes winner Travel Column. Along with the filly Cloudy, he is one of two Stakes winners from his sire’s first southerrn-hemisphere crop.

One of Frosted’s 52 winners to date overall, Ingratiating is a son of the Stakes winning Lonhro">Lonhro mare Obsequious who won three races in Australia for Sheikh Mohammed, the best of them the G2 Light Fingers Stakes.
