Hollis mows down rivals to win the West Virginia Legislature Chairman’s Cup

Hard-knocking Street Sense gelding pulls away in the stretch for easy victory

Hollis rallied from off the pace to post a two-and-a-half length victory in the West Virginia Legislature Chairman’s Cup at Mountaineer Race Track and Casino on Saturday, 6 August.

It was the third Stakes win for the hard-knocking Street Sense gelding, who entered the race off an eye-catching, front-running allowance victory at Churchill Downs in July.

Sent off as the 3-5 favorite in the field of eight, Hollis raced in third, just behind the leading pair of Fully Connected and Storm Boarder. Hollis began to make up ground on the far turn before sweeping past the dueling pacesetters in the stretch, eventually drawing off to win impressively.

Hollis was bred in Kentucky by Mueller Thoroughbred Stable, Ltd., and is out of the Stakes-placed Pulpit mare, Miss Inclined. All five of Miss Inclined’s foals to race have won, including G1-placed Lady Lilly, who is by fellow Darley sire, Nyquist. Miss Inclined is a half to G2 winner Rush Bay as well as a half to the dam of G2 winner Itsaknockout, Listed winner Storm Power and G3-placed Hot Sean.

In addition to Hollis, Street Sense is represented by the talented Speaker’s Corner, winner of three Graded Stakes so far this year, including a dominating five-length win in the G1 Carter Handicap in April. Additional Stakes winners include Australia Mia, winner of the G2 Clasico Carlos Campino in Chile; Home Brew, winner of both the Listed TVG Pegasus and Oaklawn Stakes; Heaven Street (Listed Columbia Stakes); and Whelen Springs (Listed Bachelor Stakes).
