Gift gives his all

Son of Elusive Quality wins John D. Marsh Stakes to become his sire’s 60th Stakes winner

Elusive Gift presented his owner/breeder Edward P. Evans with further black type success on Saturday when landing the five-and-a-half furlong Listed John D Marsh Stakes at Colonial Downs.

The five-year-old Elusive Quality gelding is out of the Green Desert mare Christmas Gift and thus a half-brother to Christmas Kid, winner of the G1 Ashland Stakes in 2007.

Elusive Quality, who will be represented next Sunday in the G1 Prix du Jockey-Club (French Derby) by the G3 Craven Stakes winner Elusive Pimpernel, has now sired 60 Stakes winners in total. In 2010, they include West Ocean, Starfish Bay, Elusive Warning, Beau Choix, I’m Discreet, Raihana, Flavor and, of course, Grade One winner Quality Road. Currently the world’s top-rated horse, Quality Road is set to reappear in tomorrow’s G1 Metropolitan Handicap, also known as the ‘Met Mile’, at Belmont Park.
