Frost Free goes wire-to-wire to capture G3 Chick Lang Stakes at Pimlico

Three-year-old Frosted colt much the best when earning first Graded Stakes victory

Frost Free shot like a rocket out of the starting gate and never looked back on his way to posting a one-and-a-half length victory in the G3 Chick Lang Stakes at Pimlico on Saturday, 18 May.

The sophomore son of Frosted earned his first black-type win in the Chick Lang, after having finished second and third in his two previous starts, both Stakes races at Oaklawn Park. The Chick Lang victory improved Frost Free’s record to 3-1-2 in 8 career starts.

Confidently ridden by jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., Frost Free broke sharply out of the starting gate and immediately took command by opening up a two-length lead on the rest of the field. Cats By Five raced in second, with Catahoula Moon racing in third.

As the field swept through the far turn and entered the homestretch, Frost Free continued to lead, as Cats By Five gave chase. Frost Free continued to hold his advantage, eventually crossing the wire one-and-a-half lengths ahead of Cats By Five, with Mr Skylight getting up for third.

Frost Free was bred in Kentucky by Jackpot Farm and is out of D J’s Favorite, a winning daughter of Union Rags. Second dam, I’m Mom’s Favorite (Indian Charlie), captured the Miss Preakness Stakes and hails from the family of Stakes winners Dancing House (G2 Barbara Fritchie) and Too Charming.

Frosted is having an outstanding year thus far, with seven Stakes winners to his credit. In addition to Frost Free, the stallion is represented by Post Time, already a three-time Stakes winner in 2024, including victories in the G2 Carter Stakes and G3 General George; the talented juvenile Bustling, a three-time Graded Stakes winner in Australia; Frost At Dawn (G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint); in addition to black-type Stakes winners Security Code, Frosted Departure and Icicles.

Frosted is standing the 2024 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $10,000, stands and nurses.
