Doctor Mounty wires the field in Henry S Clark

Son of Street Sense earns fourth career Black Type win

Street Sense's seven-year-old son Doctor Mounty earned his fourth career Black Type victory in the $100,000 Henry S. Clark Stakes on Labor Day at Laurel Park.

Breaking alertly in the mile-and-a-sixteenth turf event, Doctor Mounty went straight to the front and never looked back, pulling away to win comfortably by almost two lengths for trainer Shug McGaughey and owners Larry Pratt and Dave Alden.

Doctor Mounty took his career tally to nine wins from 35 starts and earnings of $572,228.  His previous Black Type wins came in the G3 Baltimore/ Washington International Turf Cup Stakes at Laurel in 2018, and the G3 Tropical Turf Stakes at Gulfstream and the Prince George's County Stakes at Laurel in 2019.

Bred in Kentucky by G. Watts Humphrey Jr., Susan Keller, Vicki Oliver & G. Watts Humphrey III, Doctor Mounty is out of On A Roll, a full-sister to Multiple Stakes winners Ender’s Sister (Listed Florida Oaks, etc.) and Ender’s Shadow (Listed Tokyo City Handicap, etc.). Doctor Mounty himself is a half-brother to Multiple Stakes winner and Graded Stakes-placed Dabster (third, G2 San Diego Handicap).

Doctor Mounty is the seventh Stakes winner for Street Sense in 2020.  No stallion can top his four Graded Stakes-winning dirt colts this year: unbeaten Maxfield in the G3 Matt Winn, multiple G1 winner McKinzie in the G2 Triple Bend, two-year-old TDN Rising Star Cazadero in the G3 Bashford Manor, and three-year-old Shared Sense in the G3 Indiana Derby.
